I bumped into Alida at a cafe during a mostly solo trip to Costa Rica in January, 2020. We became instant friends, especially because of her good sense of smell. The more I listened to Alida and started understanding her heart, the more I wanted to talk to her. I truly think she was the best thing to come out of going to Costa Rica (and the magic of the waterfalls in the area she lives). A year later, it was time to walk the Medicine Wheel with her. Animals, elements, plants, directions, and so much more, what’s not to love? To me the price was beyond reasonable and without understanding the extent of it, I already knew it would be well worth it. Alida went above and beyond in our sessions together. She has integrity and is well organized for being such a magical, creative person. She poured her whole self into our sessions and we became very close through that process. Another year later came the Prayer Portal, and without going too much longer here, the day Alida assigned me a tree, November 16, 2021, is the exact day I met someone very special and significant in my life, which I just looked back on and realized today on 4/7/22. Only 5 months later, my life has radically transformed and set me on a different course. I can’t even believe how much has changed, and pretty effortlessly. The Prayer Portal to me is also effortless to be a part of. It’s about community of trees, which is about us, and how much we can accomplish together when we’re all doing our individual, inner work. It feels like the trees are gently awakening us to their Love and potential in this Portal. I think we have no idea what beautiful things they intend for us (I have also learned that there could be some mean trees out there, so there’s that!).

Crossing paths with a medicine womanI met Alida for the first time in the midst of a magical journey of self discovery in Costa Rica. Our paths crossed one evening on the beach of Dominical as I was contemplating my direction in life. As it seems to happen often during times of spiritual potency, the synchronicity of our meeting that day was in perfect alignment with what I had been seeking- Guidance for understanding the nuances of my soul’s path, clarity of purpose, insight into the ineffable parts of life that make it so precious.
Working with the animal spirits was a meaningful and touching way to enter these realms of soul and spirit. Using the medicine wheel and animal totems, during our session Alida masterfully unwrapped the layers of my psyche, represented by these powerful and wise animal guides. Each had a message that spoke directly to my heart as Alida tuned into the frequency of these guides and translated the messages for me in a way that I was able to really understand and integrate what they represent for me and how I can work with them in my life. I have both a very logical mind and the soul of a mystic, which can create interference for me, a bit of an inner battle between mind and heart. I find that a good guide in the realms of the soul can override the voices of the ego and speak directly to the heart. Her way of working with the animals comes from her love of these beings and ability to tune to the realms where they are. She is transmitting the messages from beyond her mind from a much deeper place and because I feel the resonance of truth, my own resistance was softened. I was able to deepen my own ability to listen to the subtle reams and have since found a greater connection to the spirit animals and nature herself.
On my recent visit to Costa Rica, I met with Alida again to complete my Animal Totem, calling in the masculine and feminine spirit animals, again finding deep resonance with the guides that came. Working with them will be an ongoing process. The animal totem is like a map that can be explored in all directions, as I venture more deeply into the various aspects of self, these paths continue to unfold and show me new insights and ways to be in the world, inspired by the awesome wisdom of nature herself. Currently, I am working mostly with my masculine guide, the hummingbird that shows me how to be light of heart and drink more deeply of the sweet nectar of life.
If I had one wish to be fulfilled at this time in the evolution of our human family, it would be that our growth and processes are more gentle and joyous. May we learn to listen more deeply, have compassion for ourselves and all living beings, and live in harmony with nature both inside and outside ourselves.
